Activity- Visit to the Zoo
The Tiny Tots were taken on an excursion to the Zoo to give them a firsthand experience of watching animals in their natural habitats. The curiosity to know about wild animals and to see them in flesh was more illuminating and a much more immersive experience than reading about them or watching them on screens in the routine class presentations and enactments. The purpose of the visit was to make the little ones fall in love with animals. Such visits are bound to leave an everlasting impact and paves way for moral sensitivities to preside. The face to face encounter with the animals came as a pleasant surprise to the toddlers. Needless to say, the visit also proposed to help children practically understand the importance of animal care by observing them. Watching their favourite picture book character come alive for the first time, breathing right in front of their eyes was an amazing experience for the little ones. Animals which had been just cartoon pictures to the kids became a reality. The Zoo presented biodiversity and brought the world to the children’s fingertips. The chilling roar of the lion, the yawning and wallowing of the Hippos in their sleep, the lazy crawl of the crocodile, the vibrant and graceful dance of the peacock, the lively jumps of the monkeys was a feast to the eyes. The kids got a true inside view of the animal kingdom and were dumbstruck at the wonders gradually unfolding before them. The visit was aimed to create in the little ones love ofnature and encourage them from a young age to be compassionate to the world around them, have empathy and exercise care and bond with animals.
