Exploring Cultures Through PPT on Dolls
As part of our ongoing efforts to foster global awareness and cultural appreciation among students, a special visual learning session titled “Dolls Around the World” was organised for students to introduce them to the rich heritage and artistic traditions of India, Japan, and Russia through an engaging PowerPoint presentation and a short documentary featuring dolls from each country. During the session, students explored Indian Dolls – such as the colourful Kathputlis of Rajasthan and festival dolls from South India, showcasing regional attire, folklore, and storytelling, Japanese Dolls – including the elegant Hina and Kokeshi dolls, symbolizing tradition, seasonal festivals, and family values, Russian Dolls – particularly the iconic Matryoshka (nesting) dolls, representing family, heritage, and layers of identity. The visuals captivated the students, sparking curiosity and meaningful discussion about cultural diversity.
Learning Objective:
To help students observe, understand, and appreciate the cultural significance, craftsmanship, and symbolism of traditional dolls from India, Japan, and Russia.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session, students were able to:
- Identify key features and cultural symbolism of dolls from three different countries.
- Understand how dolls serve as reflections of a culture’s values, stories, and traditions.
- Appreciate the craftsmanship involved in handmade dolls and the role of artisans in cultural preservation.
- Express observations through class discussions and creative responses, such as sketches and storytelling.

From Scrap to Art: A Journey of Dolls and Dreams
The school organized an engaging activity, “Dolls: Whispers of a Dollmaker’s Realm,” aimed at nurturing cultural diversity, creativity, and craftsmanship. The initiative allowed students to explore the tradition of doll-making while adding their own artistic touch. Children enthusiastically coloured worksheets featuring doll outlines of India, Japan, and Russia, showcasing imagination through vibrant hues and patterns. They also designed traditional-style dolls using recyclable materials such as old socks, wool, fabric scraps, spoons, and newspapers—merging sustainability with innovation. The collaborative effort not only celebrated tradition but also encouraged students to think globally while acting responsibly. Their creations reflected an inspiring blend of heritage, creativity, and modern awareness.
